S15 SR20DET Error Code 21 (0201) - Ignition Signal

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have done a self diagnostic on my S15 SR20DET and it is coming up with error code 21 which is ignition signal error.

The car has ignition but will not crank over.

Has anyone had this issue before and what was the resolution?

I am thinking possibly the condenser. Has anyone tested one before because I tried to test the continuity between both terminals but was not getting any reading.

You tested the condenser? the only condensor im aware of on an s15 is the core in front of ur radiator for ur a/c. Just start with the simple shit first and check ur plugs and coils.

Hi mate, I was referring to the Ignition Condenser located next to the oil filler cap. It has two terminals which should show continuity between both terminals above 100Mohms but I couldn't get a reading.

I've checked coils with power transistors and that was fine. I'll check the plugs next.

The fuel guage on my S15 (JDM) remains on the correct fuel level when the engine is turned off or on - it doesn't change, but on my S15 (ADM) - this is the one I am having issues with, the fuel guage drops to the bottom (empty) when the ignition is turned off and goes to the correct level when the ignition is turned on, but when trying to crank the motor over the fuel guage gradually drops to the bottom. Is this normal? The fuel pump is priming and fuel filted/lines have fuel in them.

Problem fixed. Thanks for everyones assistance.

There was a cracked pipe going from the throttle body to bov which was causing to much vacuum. Plastic welded that quickly and it's now working perfectly.

Thanks for you post ndaryd. I hav had code 21 come up after the car seemed to drop a cylinder every now and then, but then return to normal. Would do this at least once every drive(car kinda sounded like a Rex when it did it).

Thought perhaps I had done a coil, but someone suggested the MAF sensor. I didn't think this was the case (why didn't the MAF sensor code show up) but thought I need to ditch the Hks foamy, so sprayed a bit of MAF cleaner on while I swapped the filter over; 3 drives today and hasn't skipped a beat (crossed fingers).

Will reset diagnostics and post how it goes. Pretty sure there is no manifold-bov leak in my case.

This is in case others get the 'Rex tuning' issue on their S15.
